It has been a while since we have blogged on this site. As some of you may know, I am undergoing chemotherapy and that takes a lot of our thoughts and energies at times. So, I don't get to sit down and write as often as I would like. On those days that my mind is working okay, my ability to sit at the computer has lessened and on those days when my mind is not working so great, I seem to want to get online and write away. But, my wife has stopped that; she says it is too dangerous to let me blog while on chemo.

A lot of things are getting my attention this time of year. I even found myself watching the CNN Presidential Candidate Debates. It is a shame that Molly Ivins is not around to give her humorous take on the herd of candidates running for office. Her writings always made me see how totally absurd politicos as they try to manipulate and mold our opinions.

So, I got to thinking, about who would be considered a good political satirist in this day and age. And, since I love lists, I worked at it some and finally came up with Jon Stewart on the Daily Show and Stephen Colbert on the Colbert Report as my top choices.

Others (on television) that I could think of were: David Letterman, Bill Maher, Lewis Black, Dennis Miller and Jay Leno.

And, I found my list of satirists kept growing with the likes of:
Dave Barry
Capitol Steps

Will Durst
Al Franken
Jim Hightower
Jake Novak

P.J. O'Rourke
Mark Russell

It sort of made me feel better knowing that someone out there can find some humor in our political system. (Sometimes, it does seem that people like Ann Coulter use their humor in a really hurtful fashion and take it too far, however. But...that is probably the game plan and I am the one missing the punch line.)
